Purpose:In this key leadership role, the Director of Hardware
Development will head the activities for the Viking Enterprise
Solutions group in support of cutting-edge data storage and server
product design in Colorado Springs. The Director will lead a team
of engineers in the development and enhancement of products,
establish technology development and engineering support
objectives, manage engineering staff activities, and provide
hands-on technical support on process issues. The incumbent will
also analyze problems and implement solutions regarding production
requirements, financial impact, employee safety, and environmental
concerns. Identifying project priorities and allocating resources
accordingly are also part of the job scope. The ideal candidate
will have a successful track record of building and leading product
development teams and delivering high-quality solutions on time and
on-budget.Nature of Duties/Responsibilities:
- Manage multiple complex hardware programs from concept through
design to production readiness.
- Manage programs which will have significant contributions from
Viking Enterprise Solutions and OEM partner engineering.
- Ensure quality of design and manufacturability by enforcing
strict adherence to Viking Enterprise Solutions engineering and
manufacturing guidelines.
- Define requirements and plan project lifecycle deployment for
Viking Enterprise Solutions development programs.
- Prepare product lifecycle phase review documentation and
coordinate phase reviews.
- Perform feasibility studies, including ROI calculations and
risk assessment plans, to present to the product review board.
- Ensure ODM partners are fulfilling lifecycle phase exit
criteria for each program engagement.
- Define budget, resources, and schedule for each project/program
implementation and provide concise status to management.
- Create strategies for risk mitigation and contingency planning
with Viking Enterprise Solutions engineering.
- Respond to Requests for Proposals (RFP) from OEM/JDM
customers.
- Provide mentorship to design partners to create and maintain
technical and program documentation.
- Provide technical sales support for Viking Enterprise Solutions
customers and provide status for each customer program
engagement.Education and Experience:
- BS or MS degree in engineering or computer science.
- 12 years of hands-on experience in hardware design,
development, and project management in medium to large global
organizations.
- Experience with Server and Storage products is preferred.
- Minimum of 4 years experience in a direct people management
role is required.
- Working knowledge of Electrical, Mechanical, FPGA, and Firmware
engineering is required.
- Minimum of 8 years experience with contract manufacturing of
medium to high volume products.
- Ability to lead trade technical discussions and make decisions
regarding technical trade-offs between various hardware design
disciplines.
- Experience with customer RFI/RFQ fulfillment desired.
- Proven track record in completing design engineering projects
within cost, meeting schedules, and delivering a quality
product.
- Strong inter-disciplinary design knowledge and skills in
electrical, mechanical, regulatory, prototyping, validation, and
test areas.
- Ability to implement an engineering strategy for a major
business unit that balances operations support requirements with

Identity.Salary Range (annual): $160,000 - $200,000.Actual base pay
within this range (determined at the offer stage) will be based on
a candidate's years of relevant work experience, education,
certifications, and skills, and is just one element of our total
rewards package. The total rewards package also includes a variety

disability insurance, savings plan, company paid holidays, and paid
time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business and, depending
